Recently our Pastor spoke on several of the Beatitudes. One of the beatitudes caught my special attention. These nine blessings are the words of Jesus as he began his sermon on the hillside near the Sea of Galilee. The word "Blessed´ here, speaks as one being marked with the fullness of God's spirit. The Greek word "blessed" is "makários", a root word for our English word "mark."
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." - (Matthew 5:8 [NIV])
The reason I as impressed was this: just what is the act of seeing God. In the Old Testament we are told no one sees God's face and lives.
Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory." And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." Then the LORD said, "There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen." - (Exodus 33:18-23 [NIV])
How can we see God and yet not see Him? We can see His works, His Glory, feel His presence and know His will. To be pure in heart, we must stay in His Word (the Bible) and meditate on it often. Then we will see God at work.
Blessings! You are "Marked" as God's ambassador!
