I woke up early one morning recently, thinking about the first revival meeting of the flowerers of the Lord Jesus the Christ. Only 10 days earlier Jesus had ascended to be seated at the right hand of God the Father. After a little though, I got out of my bed, went to my office and began reading at Acts 1:1. In the second chapter of Acts, Luke tells of the filling of all the believers with the Holy Spirit. In verse 14 Peter began to speak. He preaches a mighty sermon with over 3,000 converts to Christianity.
In the book of The Acts of the Apostles Luke quotes Peter:
"That's when Peter stood up and, backed by the other eleven, spoke out with bold urgency: "Fellow Jews, all of you who are visiting Jerusalem, listen carefully and get this story straight. These people aren't drunk as some of you suspect. They haven't had time to get drunk-it's only nine o'clock in the morning. This is what the prophet Joel announced would happen: "In the Last Days," God says, "I will pour out my Spirit on every kind of people: Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters; Your young men will see visions, your old men dream dreams. When the time comes, I'll pour out my Spirit on those who serve me, men and women both, and they'll prophesy. I'll set wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth below, …" (Acts 2:14-19 The Message)
The 120 disciples, who were present in the upper room, were speaking in languages they had not learned. Fourteen deferent languages are listed in this chapter. The Scripture above tells us that Peter first explained what was happening, and then he preached a sermon of why they should turn to the Lord and how they could be saved from a wasted life; receiving a new home in heaven when they died. That day over 3,000+ people answered to call to accept the offer of Jesus as one's Savior and Lord of life. The following days others then were added to the Church. That day the Church was born.
Pentecost Sunday is the seventh Sunday after Easter each year. This year we will celebrate the Church's birthday on June 4, 2017.
