See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." Colossians 2:8 (NIV)
It seems to me that other people want to put me in a category. To some, I am called a Conservative, to others a Liberal, and then seldom I am called an Independent. What am I anyway? The following are my private thoughts and not set in stone.
What is a conservative? For most people conservative thought is based on historical ways of doing things. Others hold that a God has set the standards in scripture. For most political conservatives the constitution of the USA is the ultimate historical standard.
What then is a liberal? Liberal or progressive thinking seems to be for many people a philosophy based of the most good for the most people with little or no historical prospective. This would include the philosophy of "no rich, no poor, all being even in prosperity, wealth, education, and skill." Thus the slogan; "Spread the wealth around."
What then is an independent? An independent thinker would be one who looked at the problems of life, assessed the needs, and the costs to meeting these needs; and then setting a course of action. However man's thinking can be self-centered. This type of thinking is best for the most people only if God is consulted for direction and wisdom.
